8-day Golfo Dulce sea Kayak Trip
Email us for dates. Add on a 5-day Hiking Corcovado with a layover day in Puerto Jimenez between trips.
Burnham Guides has been leading trips on the Golfo Dulce for over a decade, proof it truly is one of our favorite places on Earth. We paddle 17-foot sea kayaks from lodge-to-lodge around the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce, participate in a dolphin research trip, and take short wildlife hikes through primary rain forest. A comfortable waterfront hotel in Puerto Jimenez is our launch/landing spot.
Small group expedition for Intermediate paddlers, able to paddle up to 14 miles and do an assisted re-entry from deep water. Daily mileage will range from 10-14 miles, for a total of about 80 miles over the course of 6 paddling days. There is a 9-mile crossing of the Golfo Dulce on the last day.
Lodging ranges from an in-town waterfront hotel, wooden "cabinas" with private baths, and "glamping" on tent platforms in the rainforest, all family-owned. Three nights are at “off-the-grid” eco-lodges accessible only by boat, solar-powered with shared bathrooms and cold showers (believe us, it feels good after a hot day!) All meals are fresh, locally-sourced and prepared by our lodge hosts.
Sea kayaks: 17-foot singles, either Wilderness System Tempest 170 with skeg or Prijon Seayak with rudder. Tandems are also available.

GETTING THERE
Fly into Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose (SJO) via airline of your choice. Then get a domestic flight to Puerto Jimenez on Sansa Airlines. Leave at least two hours between flights in San Jose both coming and going. Be aware that the small regional planes do not fly at night, so the last flight of the day may be around 4 p.m. Some travelers find it necessary — and more relaxing — to arrive a day early and stay the night in a hotel near the SJO airport, then arrive in Puerto Jimenez the next day. We will meet you at the airport in Puerto Jimenez for transfer to our waterfront hotel. It has a pool, wifi, and is within walking distance to shopping, banks and restaurants. We can also store any luggage not needed on the paddling trip.
payments
A 20% deposit holds your spot. Balance is due 90 days prior. Once you are approved for the trip, we will email you an invoice for the deposit, followed by a packing list, Frequently Asked Questions and detailed itinerary.
All payments are non-refundable. Trip Insurance is required to cover the cost of your trip and medical evacuation.
